This sculpture panel depicts the T-65B X-wing in both top and front views. These ships were the standard starfighter for the Rebel Alliance and appear throughout the Skywalker Saga and extended universe. Luke was the X-wing’s most prominent pilot. Both views are made at the same scale.
This sculpture is made from 6 layers of heavy 271 gsm paper and has a total of 1,318 visible, precision laser cut holes. Each layer is cut individually then carefully assembled to create the 3D sculpture. A permanent adhesive is applied to the paper before cutting so each layer, even the small narrow bits, is securely attached to keep everything in place.
To focus on the form of this vehicle, I minimized the materials, textures, and colors used in the sculpture. It is made with 1 material, 1 texture, and 4 colors. The black frame and background isolate the white vehicles, removing them from any visual context, to focus the viewer’s attention on their unique form and details.
The layers in this sculpture panel are cut from an original digital line drawing that I personally made. Each line in the drawing becomes a cut edge in the sculpture. The digital drawing for one of my sculpture panels typically takes between 20 and 40 hours to complete, depending on its geometry and number of layers.
This sculpture is framed in a black wood frame with a sawtooth hanger on the back. The frame does not include glass because it makes it difficult to see and appreciate the fine details and subtle 3-dimensionality of the sculpture.
Without glass the sculpture will gather dust so a small synthetic bristle brush is included. The paper layers are securely attached to each other so a gentle dusting will not damage the sculpture. Gentle dusting.
The framed sculpture is shipped in robust packaging to protect your purchase. The inner packaging is appropriate for gift giving.
